Cyclone Michaung Poses Threat as it Heads Towards Andhra Pradesh Coast, Landfall Expected Near Bapatla on December 5th
In a critical weather development, Cyclonic Storm “MICHAUNG” (pronounced as MIGJAUM) is currently looming over the Westcentral and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal, prompting a Cyclone Warning for Andhra Pradesh and the adjoining North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry Coasts, indicated by a Red Message.
Over the past six hours, Cyclone “MICHAUNG” has steadily moved northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph, situated over the Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal. Forecasts suggest that the cyclonic system is poised to shift its trajectory to north-northwestwards, undergoing further intensification into a severe cyclonic storm by today, the 4th of December, forenoon.
As the cyclone progresses, it is expected to veer nearly northwards, tracking parallel and in close proximity to the south Andhra Pradesh coast. The forecast predicts a critical landfall event between Nellore and Machilipatnam, near Bapatla, during the forenoon of the 5th of December. At the time of landfall, Cyclone “MICHAUNG” is anticipated to attain the status of a Severe Cyclonic Storm, boasting a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 110 kmph.
