Central Railway Transforms Scrap into Lucrative Revenue Streams: “Zero Scrap Mission” Surpasses Targets with a Remarkable 39.91% Surge in Apr-Oct’23
In a Triumph for Sustainability, Central Railway Records Rs. 223.85 Crores in Scrap Sales, Exceeding the Initial Target of Rs. 160 Crores
Central Railway’s innovative “Zero Scrap Mission” has proven to be a resounding success, registering a remarkable 39.91% increase over its set target during the period of April to October 2023. The railway division has effectively turned what was once considered scrap into a lucrative revenue source, with scrap sales reaching Rs. 223.85 Crores, surpassing the initial target of Rs. 160 Crores.
This commendable achievement was made possible through the strategic sale of various items, including 15950 Metric Tonnes of old rails, 13 locomotives, 203 coaches, and 113 wagons. The success of the “Zero Scrap Mission” is a testament to Central Railway’s commitment to sustainable practices and responsible resource management.
The location-wise breakdown of this substantial revenue contribution is as follows:
- Bhusaval Division: Rs. 47.11 Crores
- Matunga Workshop: Rs. 37.45 Crores
- Mumbai Division: Rs. 33.27 Crores
- Electric Locoshed Bhusaval: Rs. 21.23 Crores
- Pune Division: Rs. 20.29 Crores
- Solapur Division: Rs. 19.00 Crores
- Nagpur Division: Rs. 16.63 Crores
- Other Locations: Rs. 28.87 Crores
