Odisha Pavilion Unveiled at IITF-2023, Showcasing Cultural Richness and Economic Empowerment

The vibrant state of Odisha, known as the Land of the Rising Sun, has inaugurated its pavilion at the 42nd India International Trade Fair (IITF-2023) in New Delhi. The ceremonial unveiling, led by Ashok Chandra Panda, Honourable Minister of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Public Enterprises, and Science & Technology, Government of Odisha, witnessed the presence of dignitaries such as Sanjay Kumar Singh (IAS, Principal Secretary, Information & Public Relations Department, Government of Odisha) and Ravi Kant (IPS, Resident Commissioner, Government of Odisha).

This year’s IITF-2023 holds special significance as it features a robust representation of tribal groups, with a notable focus on women actively participating in the production process. Aligned with the Mission Shakti initiative, the pavilion underscores women’s empowerment, highlighting Odisha’s commitment to gender equality and recognizing women as pivotal drivers of economic growth.

The IITF, organized by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from November 14th to 27th, 2023, carries the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: United by Trade.” The Odisha pavilion embraces this theme, embodying the spirit of ‘Unity through Trade.’ It emphasizes trade as a unifying force that bridges diverse cultures and communities, including the representation of tribal groups.

Addressing the media, Ashok Chandra Panda stated, “Odisha is a multifaceted destination, attracting tourists, students, sports enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and investors. At IITF-2023, our pavilion showcases local products crafted by rural women artisans, aligning with Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik’s vision to empower women and rural entrepreneurs.”

The Odisha pavilion, featuring 19 stalls, includes renowned handloom outlets and government departments, offering visitors a detailed look at brick-colored terracotta artefact models that reflect India’s rural culture. Live demonstrations by artisans will provide insights into the intricate process of transforming raw materials into finished goods. Notably, the pavilion takes pride in presenting Tussar silk products, highlighting an eco-friendly process that obtains silk without harming insects, reflecting Odisha’s dedication to sustainable and ethical practices.

Visitors can also anticipate cultural performances by Odisha’s troupes during the State Day celebration on November 19, enriching the overall experience of this 14-day-long global trade exhibition. The IITF-2023 is set to attract approximately a million visitors, featuring participation from 29 states, 15 countries, central government ministries, and numerous corporations and private players across various sectors.
