Government Approves Rs 1968.87 Crores Productivity Linked Bonus for Railway Employees

In a significant move, the Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its nod for the disbursal of a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for the financial year 2022-23, equivalent to 78 days’ wages. This bonus will be extended to eligible non-gazetted railway employees, including various categories such as Track Maintainers, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Pointsmen, Ministerial Staff, and other Group ‘C’ staff, excluding RPF/RPSF personnel.

Recognizing the exceptional performance of the Railway staff, the Union Government has approved a substantial PLB amounting to Rs 1968.87 crores, benefiting a total of 11,07,346 dedicated railway employees.

The Railway sector has displayed outstanding performance during the fiscal year 2022-2023. It achieved remarkable milestones, including the record transportation of 1509 Million Tonnes of cargo and the successful carriage of nearly 6.5 Billion passengers.

Several contributing factors paved the way for this record-breaking achievement. Key among them are substantial investments in Railway infrastructure through record Capital Expenditure (Capex) by the Government, operational efficiency, and the implementation of advanced technology, all of which played pivotal roles in bolstering the Railway sector’s performance.

The approval for PLB is not only a financial reward but also serves as an incentive to motivate Railway employees to continue their efforts toward further enhancements in performance and service delivery. This decision underscores the government’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding the hard work and dedication of the Railway workforce, paving the way for a brighter future for the Indian Railway sector.
